The earliest recorded mention of Vernaccia di San Gimignano appears in the archives of record of San Gimignano from 1276. However due to the Difficulties in growing and cultivating this wine fell out of favor in the early 20th century. Since the 1960s with its crisp, distinctive qualities, Vernaccia di San Gimignano has experienced a resurgence.
